The Laby 5-12 assesses the ability to plan a first motor action after perceptual analysis of a cognitive task. It is particularly relevant when screening for attention deficit disorders, with or without hyperactivity (ADD / ADHD), and in monitoring the effects of the treatment.
(Pervasive Development disorder, Oppositional defiance disorder, conduct disorder, Specific learning disorders) and in the cases of prematurity or head injuries.
It is essential for consultations oriented towards learning difficultiesor pervasive development disorders, in addition to the assessment of attentional functions.
The originality of its design allows for an enhanced analysis of the errors made in order to update the mailing promesses and provide guidance to therapeuthic procedures. It is also used to track the evolution of the care devices used.
Inspired by the Porteus test mazes, the Laby 5-12 offers various types of mazes
(angular or circular) and a quotation method involving the resolution of speed and errors.
The resolution also requires inhibition of movement since the maze can lead to dead ends, thus measuring impulsivity.
The evolution of theoretical concepts and models on the Attention Deficit Disorder / Hyperactivity put the emphasis on the deficit in executive functioning (Barkley, 1997) as well as the aversion to delay (Sonuga-Barke, 2003). The Laby 5-12 puts the child in a situation of problem-solving, where the failing executive functions will be specifically analyzed with through the error analysis.
